Choose your battles

To choose means to be selective of the problems, arguments, and confrontations that you get involved in, save your time only for the things that matter. To pick means to check if the otherone is worth the battle.If you have posibilities of any good result This means fighting only the important ones, let the rest go. Not everrything is worth flippin out over.

Choosing your battles often balances on a thin line between knowing when to take something further and when to turn away.

Some things are of course worth taking a stand for, but not everything. The key is in knowing the difference, and to express your preference from an intention to create the clarity that can promote the kind of interaction that supports respectful dialogue, rather than reacting in ways that generate defensiveness and opposition.

This process begins with the way in which we frame the situation in our own mind. The words that we use to define it, whether they are our unspoken thoughts or are verbally expressed aloud, have a great deal of power to set the context for the type of communication that will ensue. Conceptualizing an encounter as a “battle” predisposes each of us to assume an adversarial position, since battles result in winners and losers, and the stakes can be high.

Reasons for choosing battles.

Standing up for only the important battles or beliefs that you have can lead to a happier life. .
Your beliefs are not necessarily someone else’s and that is alright. 
Some people just are not going to change their minds.

There may not be a perfect way to argue, but there are some ways of fighting better than others. At times, the best way to fight may be to not fight at all. Healthy relationships hinge on the ability to know which issues are worth fighting over and which ones are worth letting go.

Tips to take in account

Life is too short to grow around trying to fight every single battle.Your level of enery and time is ,sorry to say, limited so,you will have to choose well.Think where, and when ,you want to spend you time.Here some tips to take in account in picking your battles.

  1. Only fight about issues that are enormously important. Evaluate the consequences of an argument. Consider a few simple questions: “Is this worth addressing?”
  2. Do not react immediately. Wait. Choose the right time. Stay calm.
  3. Communicate. Present the problem. Choose your words carefully. Agree to disagree.

Let go of unresolved problems.

Some issues seem to large to solve.Many issues do not depend on you.You cant change the world.You can only change your actitud The way you look at things.You gave your point.You said what you had to say ,now just stopIf the problem remains unresolved despite your best effort, let it go..

Success comes not from not winning every battle but learning to let go when it is time to do so. Have a cut-loss point that tells you, “Okay, that’s it. Time to cut my losses and move on.” This is the point where you exit the battle because you have incurred your maximum loss and you do not want to invest any more time or energy into this.Do not loose any more time nore effort there.Just let it go.

Seek help when necessary. 

When you find yourself fighting too many battles.When you see yourself angry most of the time. Then your ability to choose your battlres is just not tooned. Something is just not working well That is the time to seek professional advice. Many times a counselor can shed light on the situation and help you have a better life.
